Since Tuesday March 17 at noon, the French are no longer allowed to leave their homes without a certificate justifying the reason for their displacement. Some reasons for leaving are accepted, such as trips to work or to go shopping. The famous paper to present to the police in the event of an inspection can be printed from the ministry’s website, or copied by hand for those who do not have a printer.
With a certificate to provide for each trip, manual writing can be tedious. Many French people therefore want to invest in a printer, which has also become essential for children’s homework, since the school closings, March 16.
13% increase on average
But the merchants take advantage of the situation. The price of printers increased by 13% on average, according to reports from the Consumer Observatory of the UFC-Que Choisir. This is a general increase in prices and not an increase which can be explained by the disappearance of entry-level models, according to the magazine.
Because the price of printers is usually pretty stable. From the start of the year until the eve of containment, the average price development had never exceeded 2% or 3% in a week.
A sign that the French are looking more and more for this product, UFC-Que Choisir also reveals that the number of printer references available on commercial sites has dropped by 42% compared to the day before confinement.
UFC-Que Choisir therefore advises to postpone its purchase. If this proves essential, it is better to compare prices on all sites and avoid third-party sellers of market places such as those of Amazon or Fnac, to favor products marked “sold and shipped ”By these companies. According to the consumer protection organization, it is indeed third-party sellers who take the most of this period to increase their prices.
