ANNOUNCEMENTS•
The price of petrol in the Netherlands continues to fall. According to consumer collective UnitedConsumers, the national recommended price for a liter of Euro95 is 1.86 euros. This is the lowest level in about a year and a half. Another record was set on 8 June this year, when the recommended price for a liter of petrol exceeded 2.50 euros.
The decline is partly due to the drop in oil prices. Fears of a cooling economy and a recession reduced the demand for oil. But the reduction of excise taxes by the government also plays an important role. For example, in April the excise duty on a liter of petrol was reduced by 17 cents, a measure which will apply at least until the end of June next year.
Tomorrow a liter will cost a little less, says Paul van Selms of UnitedConsumers. The National Suggested Retail Price is not used in many places. Many gas station owners offer a discount on the price of gasoline, especially at unmanned gas stations. In some places, a liter of petrol now costs less than €1.65.
