(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Oil prices fell on Tuesday ahead of the weekly data on US trade inventories.
January futures for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude oil closed 3.5% lower at $74.25 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent oil for February was 3.7% cheaper at $79.64.
Inventory data will have plenty of data to move the market, Mizuho’s Robert Yawger expects.
Crude inventories fell sharply by 12.6 million barrels last week, according to weekly data from the EIA.
“Another sharp decline in inventories could curb the overall decline in oil prices in recent days,” Yawger said.
