Already in November, a multi-series art film of the New Riga Theater will be handed over to the audience for evaluation, however, it will be possible to watch it only by paying. The price of the series has caused extensive discussions on social networks.
In the spring of 2020, during the Covid-19 crisis, when all performances were canceled due to gathering restrictions, the artistic director of the New Riga Theater, Alvis Hermanis, came up with the idea to make a series of feature films. The filming took place in the summer, but already in November it is planned to offer the multi-series feature film “Agency” to the audience in ten series.
However, the fee indicated for watching the JRT series has sparked heated discussions on social networks.
The theatre’s website states that the opportunity to enjoy the performance of JRT actors up close at home with family or friends for ten hours – only for the price of two theater tickets (50 Eur), but when purchasing a series of feature films in advance from November 20 to November 26 – 40 Eur .
Yes – and more equipment rental, operators, make-up artists, assistants, screenwriters, dressers, lighting, directors, etc. A whole plethora of professionals, who would not have to do all this in the same way – for the pleasure of others. They all deserve to be rewarded. Or not?

There is (or will be) a show in Russia where tickets will cost from 500 €. The show is intended for the highest circles and the actors will perform in designer clothes.

Most support this new direction of the New Riga Theater, pointing out that the actors also have to earn and no one works for free. Others believe that in this way the theater tries to cover the losses caused by unperformed performances.
If the series is 10h, then it turns out that 1h is € 5 (or € 4, because from November 20-26 you can buy for € 40), it doesn’t sound so terrible. Also – so many scream that artists themselves need to be able to charge higher fees for their work, etc. – that’s a pretty normal plan.

I would be willing to pay exactly twice less.

It is already known that in the spring of 2020, the first wave of Covid-19 started in Latvia, during which strict conditions for gatherings and events were set. All theaters, including the New Riga Theaters, had to cancel countless performances and return the money for them, causing great financial difficulties.
