Home security is one of the most important factors when assessing where you are going to reside. The Insurance Business Association (UNESPA) has prepared a study of thefts in insured homes where it stands out that Granada, Pontevedra and Ciudad Real are the big cities where it is more likely to suffer a home robbery, while homes in Ceuta, Avilés or Lorca appear with the lowest risk of assault, always in comparison with the national volume. We analyze housing prices, with data from idealista, in 101 municipalities with more than 75,000 inhabitants.
in the report ‘Robbers in insured Spanish homes’, UNESPA has taken into account the places that are more or less likely to suffer a robbery and compares it with respect to the country as a whole. “The probability of robbery in insured homes is derived from the relationship between the total number of robberies declared to the insurance and the number of existing insured homes. The rate resulting from this relationship allows us to know in which territory of Spain it is more or less likely that a crime of these characteristics occurs ”, highlights the study by the employers of the insurers.
In the analysis by provinces, it is shown how this phenomenon is particularly intense throughout the Mediterranean coast and the southern half of the country. Thus, the most affected territories would be Badajoz, Granada, Valencia, Almería, while the areas least prone to this type of crime are on the Cantabrian coast or in the interior of the peninsula, as is the case of Soria, Lugo, Asturias or Ourense. .
Assaults in homes in large municipalities are spread throughout Spain
Zooming in on the big cities, those with more than 75,000 inhabitants, the result is more heterogeneous than the provincial data. Granada (89.14%), Pontevedra (88.38%) and Ciudad Real (85.05%) These are the municipalities where it is more likely to experience a home robbery, with nearly twice the probability than in other towns with more than 75,000 inhabitants.

Likewise, their prices vary from 1,807 euros/m2 in the autonomous city to 1,010 in the city of Lorca. Avilés (1,196 euros/m2) and the university city of La Laguna (1,357 euros/m2), also have more or less affordable prices.
Where are the big capitals and the most expensive (and cheapest) cities?
Definitely, Pozuelo is, by far, the municipality with the most expensive house price among the 10 cities with 3,418 euros/m2, while Valencia (2,004 euros/m2) is the largest city with greater probability than the average in Spain of suffering a home robbery.
Of among the rest of the big capitals and after the numbers of Valencia, you can find Malaga (position 16), Seville (22), Barcelona (31), Zaragoza (35) and Madrid (47), with data that vary from 16.51% in the city of Malaga, 12.55% in the Seville capital, to the smallest in Barcelona (7.10%) or Zaragoza (4.98%). Madrid (-3.44%) is the only large capital where housing is less likely to be robbed compared to the national average.
Housing prices in these large cities ranged from 4,035 euros/m2 in Barcelona, 3,900 euros/m2 in Madrid to the most “affordable” in Zaragoza (1,682 euros/m2) and Seville (2,109 euros/m2 ).
San Sebastián (19) has the most expensive house price in Spain, with its 5,111 euros/m2 at the end of last July in idealista, and maintains a burglary probability rate of 14.60%. Above the capital of San Sebastian in the Unespa classification is Sant Cugat del Vallès (11), the second most expensive city on the list, with 4,050 euros/m2. Its risk is somewhat higher, with a 20.88% probability.
Another Basque town like Getxo (15), the sixth most expensive in terms of prices on the list, offers homes on the market for an average price of 3,786 euros/m2, while it has a rate of 17.05%. Above 3,000 euros/m2, Marbella (55) already appears far from the top of the ranking, with 3,786 euros/m2; Palma (84), with 3,353 euros/m2; and Bilbao (41), with 3,063 euros/m2.
The Mediterranean cities are in percentages below the national average in the probability of home robbery, while in the Biscayan capital (0.41%) it is practically equal.
Conversely, the city with the cheapest average home price on the list is Queen’s Talavera (779 euros/m2) which occupies the 59th position on the list. Gandía (94) and the aforementioned Lorca (99) are the cheapest municipalities to buy a home, with 1,004 euros/m2 and 1,011 euros/m2, respectively, and also with little probability of suffering a home robbery.
