Criticism and “The Price of Joy”
In my opinion, the trailer puts a heavy emphasis on the deaths of the three “Glee” stars, and the title of the documentary suggests that their deaths have something to do with the series and its fame. But Naya Riviera died in a boating accident and Mark Salling committed suicide. Only in the case of Cory Monteith could one assume that his drug problem, and with it his overdose, has something to do with his sudden fame through the music franchise.
In my opinion, the focus on their death almost feels exploitative and should therefore be viewed critically. Contrary to what the trailer suggests, the documentary is not only about the deaths of the three stars, but also about the lives of the rest of the cast and the influence that the series has had on it. It also gives reassurance that the ‘Glee’ crew, stars and their relatives also have a say so they can create a real picture of what’s going on.
