The price of electricity increased this Monday by 8.73%, to 146.43 euros/MWh

MADRID, 14 (PRESS EUROPE)

The average price of electricity for regulated rate customers connected to the wholesale market will rise this Monday by 8.73% compared to yesterday, to 146.43 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), according to provisional data from the market operator Ibrico de Energa (OMIE) collected by Europa Press.

In the auction, the average electricity price in the wholesale market – the so-called ‘pool’ – will be 139.8 euros/MWh this Monday. The maximum price will be recorded between 09:00 and 10:00, with 172.77 euros/MWh, while the daily minimum, of 107.57 euros/MWh, will be between 23:00 and 00:00.

To this ‘pool’ price is added the indemnity to gas companies of 6.63 euro/MWh, which must be paid by the consumers benefiting from the measure, by regulated rate consumers (PVPC) or by those who, despite being on the market free, have an indexed rate or have to renew the contract.

7.45% LESS THAN WITHOUT APPLYING THE MEASURE

In the absence of the “Iberian exception” mechanism to limit the price of gas for electricity production, the price of electricity in Spain would average around €158.22/MWh, or around €11.79/MWh. MWh. regulated rate customers, who will thus pay an average of 7.45% less.

The ‘Iberian mechanism’, which came into force on 15 June, limits the price of gas for the production of electricity to an average of 48.8 euros per MWh for a twelve-month period, thus covering next winter, a period in which energy prices are more expensive.

In particular, the ‘Iberian exception’ provides for a path for natural gas for the production of electricity from a price of 40 euros/MWh in the first six months -until 15 December-, and subsequently, a monthly increase of five euros /MWh until the end of the measurement.
