The price of butter flies steeply. Moreover, according to experts, it will not just become cheaper

In stores, it looks like a second butter fever. You can’t get Czech butter cheaper than for 45 crowns. Prices over 50 crowns have become a reality. The current situation is reminiscent of the rocketing rise in butter prices four years ago, when it was sold for more than 60 crowns.

According to the Food Chamber, less butter is produced in the Czech Republic than the demand for it. Therefore, the price will not go down just like that. It is also held above by more expensive raw materials.

It is said that the increase in the purchase prices of milk, from eight to nine crowns per liter, is behind the increase in the price of butter. “Prices are relatively high, they will not fall. Czech butter simply does not exist, so prices correspond to it. It is produced less than is consumed here,” explained Miroslav Koberna from the Food Chamber of the Czech Republic.

“The increase in the price of butter may be influenced by the increase in the price of milk and the increase in the price of other input costs,” said the chairman of the Association of Private Agriculture of the Olomouc Region, Václav Koutný.

Butter started to rise in price already in May. In addition to milk, the price is also increased by the approaching beginning of the school year. Stores are therefore trying to get cheap butter on the shelves from Poland, Germany or Belgium.

“Polish butter, even German butter, mostly passed through their material reserves, so the butter is not fresh. People know it, they have already tried it, even for the higher price, they prefer Czech butter,” Koberna added.

You can recognize butter from material reserves by the fact that they do not have the inscription fresh on them. This means that it was mostly stored frozen, often for more than a year.
