Sis this a self-fulfilling prophecy? Despite the mortgage represented by the war in North Kivu, added to other uncertainties such as the impartiality of the Electoral Commission, the entire Congolese political class acts “as if”… As if the general elections will indeed take place in the scheduled date, December 20. As if the Electoral Commission, against all odds, will be able to fulfill its mandate. As if, despite polls showing public disappointment, President Tshisekedi had every chance of being elected for a second term. The latter would give him the legitimacy that was lacking in the first five-year term because no one has forgotten that it was a political agreement concluded in 2019 with President Kabila that allowed a peaceful transfer of power, the first in the country’s history, and that despite the non-publication of the election results.
