Health crisis decisions must be made on the basis of medical expertise. This was stated by President Rumen Radev during a meeting with directors of hospitals from the Plovdiv region, at which they shared with the head of state the challenges they face in the current epidemic situation. The Deputy Minister of Health Toma Tomov, the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Angel Stoev, the Director of RZI – Plovdiv Siika Dimcheva and the Chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Union Ivan Madzharov took part in the meeting.
During the conversation, the directors of medical institutions from the Plovdiv region expressed their concerns about the increasingly complicated epidemic situation, in which there is a lack of sufficient medical personnel, and the vacancies in the hospitals are running out. The importance of avoiding a complete lockdown by being responsible and strictly following the health measures introduced was highlighted. The general position was that in order to overcome the crisis, it is necessary to look for responsible and long-term solutions and to strengthen the capacity of the health care system.
Among the highlights of the conversation between the president and medical specialists was the need to stop political speculation in the fight against the epidemic. “The way out of the health crisis requires reaching a consensus, first of all, among the experts,” stressed President Rumen Radev. Directors of medical institutions shared the opinion that the distrust of a large part of people towards health measures is due to the fact that in recent years, prophylaxis and prevention have left in the background and there is a lack of culture and habits for everyone to pay attention to their health, and instead people often react at the last minute.
The head of state thanked the persistence and dedication of the medical specialists for their efforts to control the health crisis and called for an effective and permanent dialogue of the medical facilities with the regional administration, the Ministry of Health and the Bulgarian Medical Union. According to the president, this will also contribute to the timely resolution of emerging problems in hospitals.
