The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev met today with the Mayor of Sozopol Municipality Tihomir Yanakiev. The two discussed the political situation in the country and expressed their concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine. Mayor Yanakiev shared the difficulties he encountered in communication with the National Institute for National and Cultural Heritage /NINKN/ during the construction of a bus station in Sozopol. The President noted that the archaeological finds discovered in Sozopol, including at this site, are of national importance.
Rumen Radev and Tihomir Yanakiev also discussed the potential of Sozopol for the development of various types of tourism, but they also shared the problems, one of the main ones being the lack of staff.
Mayor Yanakiev presented the president with a stone plaque with the oldest Apollonius coin found in the city minted on it. The plaque was created on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of the old town of Sozopol and the island of “Saints Kirik and Iulita” as an architectural and archaeological reserve “Ancient Sozopol”.
The meeting was attended by deputy mayors Andrey Nikolov and Todor Damyanov, as well as part of the president’s team.
