The president of the Trieste order of nurses appointed to the national table for mental health

Cristina Brandolin, president of the Order of Nursing Professions of Trieste, in force at the Mental Health Center 4 of the Trieste Mental Health Department, was reconfirmed at the national technical working table on mental health. There are two nurses appointed as national members of the table by Undersecretary Sandra Zampa, a prestigious confirmation for Brandolin, after the first assignment received in 2019, within a pool of experts who will have the task of preparing guidelines, guidelines and documents scientific studies and to verify the appropriateness and quality of treatment and rehabilitation courses provided for mental disorders.

Psychiatric disorders increase

“With pride I accepted the position again – underlines the president of the Professional Order of Nurses of Trieste – and it is an honor to represent my category in this body which sets itself important objectives. It is even more so in this particular historical moment, in which there is a significant increase in psychiatric disorders due to the pandemic emergency and the related social and economic difficulties, which affect people’s lives. Lockdowns, restrictions and distances have limited relationships and this can affect everyone, individuals with certain vulnerabilities or those suffering from latent but not yet diagnosed disorders ”.

A virtuous example

Is the Trieste model still relevant? “Surely yes, our system represents a virtuous example even in this complicated context. We tried to reorganize ourselves, activating technologies and platforms that were new for us too. We have redistributed the internal spaces and guaranteed the health of our users and staff through constant monitoring, with checks, swabs and more recently with the vaccinations of the operators. At the national level the situations are not all identical and the working table will also serve to promote the models that have guaranteed the greatest benefits “.

The appeal

As referent of the National Federation of Orders of Nursing Professions at the ministerial table, Brandolin launches an appeal: “Nurses represent 45% of mental health professionals in our country. complexes and a growing multiplicity of interlocutors. For this reason, working in mental health services today requires specific knowledge and skills that should be further developed starting from the three-year course of study to get to specialized masters and research doctorates. There is ample room for improvement in the training path. For our part, we are committed to ensuring that the nurses who come to us are supported and trained with appropriate paths and timelines, to respond to the multiple needs of users who are still very stigmatized and towards whom prejudice, even in the healthiest world general, is still present “.
