The president of the Peruvian Football Federation, Agustín Lozano, is arrested in investigation for the alleged formation of a criminal organization

(CNN Español) – The president of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), Agustín Lozano, was preliminarily arrested this Thursday during a simultaneous operation in which his home and 16 other properties were raided, according to the director of the Fiscal Police, Nilton Santos Villalta.

The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Lozano for the alleged commission of the crimes of criminal organization, fraud in the administration of legal entities, coercion, corruption in the private sphere and money laundering, as stated in the judicial document in which Judge Richard Concepción Carhuancho approves of his arrest, obtained by CNN.

During the Lozano arrest operation, broadcast on local television this Thursday, Santos said that they acted in compliance with the judicial order and that the head of the federation will remain in police custody for 15 days.

Upon leaving his residence, Lozano said that he hopes that “justice will be done” and that “everything will be clarified to guarantee peace of mind” for his family and the people who, he said, trust in the work he has been doing.

CNN is trying to communicate with the legal representation of Lozano and others detained in the case, including directors of sports clubs, as well as FPF workers. Also try to obtain a statement from the FPF.

In a document from the Public Ministry, obtained by CNN, it is detailed that the federation receives 10% of the money it earns from match broadcast contracts. But, according to the entity, Lozano, who is in charge of the FPF, has not told it how much money he has received from those contracts, nor has he accounted for what he did with that money, which means that he has hidden important information about the economic situation of the entity.

“The alleged criminal organization, which would have entrenched itself in the Peruvian Football Federation, instrumentalizing it in its criminal actions, would not have communicated the real administrative and economic situation,” says the document from the Prosecutor’s Office.
