The president of the Neamț County Council, Ionel Arsene, surrendered to the Italian authorities

Ionel Arsene, the PSD baron from Neamț sentenced to 6 years and 8 months by the Brașov Court of Appeal in a corruption case, surrendered in Italy.

Arsene was sentenced, on March 10, to 6 years and 8 months by the Brașov Court of Appeal.

The sentence is final. The process started as early as five years ago.

The court also ordered the confiscation of 80,000 euros and 80,000 lei from Arsene.

Arsene fled the country on March 4

Ionel Arsene would have left the country on March 4, by plane. He flew from Otopeni to Rome Airport, then he had no prohibition to leave the country, according to G4Media.ro.

After the sentencing, Arsene was prosecuted.

Prefect Vasile-Adrian Niţă announced, on March 16, that he signed the order regarding the termination of Ionel Arsene’s mandate as president of the Neamţ County Council.
