The president of the European People’s Party sided with Péter Márki-Zay

Donald Tusk, President of the European People ‘s Party and Péter Márki-Zay Hungarian opposition prime minister met in Warsaw. After their meetings, the two politicians held a joint press conference, at which it was practically announced that the European People’s Party would welcome Marquis-Zay. A video about the event was published by Péter Márki-Zay a Facebook page shared it. In this, the Prime Minister-designate spoke, among other things, about Polish-Hungarian friendship, saying that Poles and Hungarians had to fight for their freedom many times and proved to be people who love freedom. According to the united prime ministerial candidate, this is still needed against repressive regimes. Mark Zay said democracy and the rule of law in the two countries must be restored along Christian values.

According to Márki-Zay, since joining the EU, Poland has been in a much better economic situation than Hungary, as has their education.

He justified the latter statement with his results in the international PISA tests, according to him, the Poles are ahead of Hungary in this respect as well, as they are almost as successful as the Scandinavian states. According to Márki-Zay, the freedom of the media is in more serious danger in Hungary, and Poland can be in a slightly more favorable situation in this respect as well. As he said, corruption is also becoming more widespread in Hungary, which was confirmed by Márki-Zay by the fact that Viktor Orban his childhood friend and his son-in-law were among the richest people in Hungary. At the same time, corruption is a great risk for both countries, and Russian influence in Hungary is at least as great, added the Prime Minister-designate, who said that Orbán is serving Vladimir Putin interests, ie the Russian president dictates to the Hungarian prime minister. He said,

Orbán calls the fight against the European Union a matter of sovereignty, even though eighty percent of Hungarians want to stay in the EU.

According to Márki-Zay, the way Orbán treated the free part of the Hungarian media could be a serious lesson for Poles. According to him, the possibilities of a press product independent of the government have been greatly reduced. Márki-Zay mentioned the streamlining of the Index, and it was also mentioned that the public service media also serves the interests of Fidesz. As he said: the situation of the Hungarian opposition is greatly aggravated by the false news and disinformation campaigns created by Fidesz. At the press conference, Márki-Zay drew the attention of the Polish opposition to the practice of pre-election in Hungary as an opportunity to influence the formation of public discourse. The politician added that the opposition parties in the two countries can count on each other’s support.

Donald Tusk spoke at the press event about the fact that the Hungarian and Polish opposition speak one language, and those who profess Christian Democratic values must defend fundamental European values together. The President of the European People’s Party also said that he would do everything in his power to activate the democratic forces on the side of the Hungarian Democrats. According to Tusk, the current Hungarian and Polish governments are stealing money, hope and dreams from the people.
