The president of the Consorcio das Mariñas, José Antonio Santiso, recognizes that the situation that the entity is going through is unsustainable by the confrontation of the mayors in a body that always functioned by consensus. It warns of the economic consequences of the disappearance of the Consortium, especially in garbage management and viability of the Nostián plant. Following Culleredo’s announcement of his intention to leave him, Santiso blames the situation on the attempts of the mayor of Oleiros, Angel Garcia Seoane, to take over the presidency of this body by a legislative change in 2013. He says he will also leave.
Santiso points out that it is necessary to think about the consortium services and the civil servants. He assures that he will leave the presidency as soon as a complaint from the Oleiros council about the irregular hiring of officials within the Consortium is resolved.
Culleredo finalizes his departure from the regional entity after preparing a study on the situation of the garbage collection and treatment service that he wants to manage. The Cullerdense councilor believes that with direct management it will be possible to offer a more specific service and a combination of the rural part with the urban one.
Meanwhile, the mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, has indicated that the departure of Culleredo was not expected.
The abandonment of the councils that use the Nostián plant will determine the cost of the service and, therefore, the garbage bill. At this time Arteixo has already taken off the hook, directly manages its collection and transfers the remains to Sogama.
