Latvian President Edgars Rinkevich said that Ukraine must win the war against the Russian invaders and that Russia must be defeated.
Thus he commented on the recent statements of French President Emmanuel Macron, who is sure that the West should not allow Russia to win.
The message appeared on the microblog X (formerly Twitter).
“I fully support Emmanuel Macron. We must not draw red lines for ourselves, we must draw red lines for Russia, and we must not be afraid to stick to them. Ukraine must win, Russia must be defeated,” Rinkevich added.
The president also paraphrased the winged Latin expression “Carthago delenda est” (“Carthage must be destroyed”) by writing “Russia delenda est.”
It will be recalled that during the full-scale war in Ukraine, Latvia introduced compulsory military service for men aged 18 to 27. The threat of a possible Russian attack is constantly being discussed in the West.
At the beginning of the year, it became known that the country, together with Estonia and Lithuania, will build defense structures along the borders with Russia and Belarus.
In addition, the Latvian Sejm recently decided to ban the import of agricultural products from these two countries.
