The President of Indes Declines Role in Salvadoran Football to Focus on Supporting All Sports

Yamil Bukelethe president of the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (Indes), is convinced that, if he proposed, he would win the presidency of the Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut), in an extensive talk on the Diálogo 21 program, in which he touched on different topics of national sport, and, above all, the Central American and Caribbean Games.

The also president of the basketball federation accepted that he is not interested in directing soccer, despite indications to the contrary, because he is in a position that allows him to help all sports.

“I got into soccer, I tried to help, I tried to ensure that the law was complied with, it was complied with, they told me that I wanted to (get into) soccer, if I wanted to be in soccer, I know the legal path to get there and I’m sure I could win the Fesfut presidency, but I’m not interested, I’m in a privileged position, which is to help all sports, and that’s what I want to do,” Bukele said.

The official advocated for a coordination in the work for the development of soccer for the benefit of the sport because, he said: “There is no selection and positive results of any sports program in the world if it does not have a support from the government, that is, if we do not work as a team, there will never be positive results”
“How are we going to ask for a sports result in football, what have we done, do you think it’s only the coach? Impossible,” he asserted.

Bukele said that he created a program for the World Cup with an investment of 30 million dollars, but that it had to be withdrawn because “they could not take care of the sponsor and not because of what happened in the match between FAS and Alianza”, referring to the help received by the First Division.

Bukele also referred to the creation of a superior sports council in charge, among other things, of ensuring that the athlete has the appropriate conditions to exercise, train, in addition to the labor issue.

“It cannot be that there are athletes that employers do not want to give them permission to go to train or attend competitions, despite having a law that sanctions it,” Bukele said.

Regarding the Central American and Caribbean Games, Bukele was satisfied with what the athletes have done “so far” and said he is hopeful that the harvest will continue to bear fruit and more medals will come.

“It leaves a very positive taste in your mouth because as the games unfold we are receiving this good news for the country and of course for each of the athletes who in the end are the ones who sacrifice themselves,” he said.

He accepted that the reconstruction of the stages, the logistics of the event and the time in which it was carried out was “total madness”, and that despite the criticism he was satisfied.

“Criticism makes me work better every day, I don’t get into the game of criticism on social networks and so on, I read it and analyze it and keep it for myself, I pass it on to my work team and we move forward” the official asserted.
