Noboa will go to the polls again as a candidate for National Democratic Action (ADN), his own political formation, which will now participate alone after having achieved electoral registration, something that he could not do in the last elections, where he participated in alliance with other organizations. policies with registration.
The president, who in 2023 became the youngest president to win an election in the history of Ecuador, took office in a country with the highest homicide rate in Latin America, a product of the rise of criminal violence, so at the beginning of 2024 elevated the fight against organized crime to the category of “internal armed conflict” and dictated a state of emergency.
“We have faced unprecedented circumstances, with a State in intensive care and a society hit by a dark and indolent past,” said the president.
In this new candidacy, he will be accompanied as a candidate for vice presidency by the businesswoman María José Pinto, until now head of the Technical Secretariat Ecuador Grows Without Child Malnutrition.
In the previous elections, Verónica Abad was the candidate for vice president, who maintains a bitter confrontation with Noboa, with open judicial and administrative processes that could lead to her dismissal.
The electoral appointment is scheduled for February 9, 2025, and for the presidential election there will be a second round on Sunday, April 13 between the two candidates with the most votes, in the event that no candidate achieves at least 50% of the votes or 40% and an advantage of 10 percentage points over the second.
According to the polls released so far, the contest aims to be a new face-to-face between the current president, Daniel Noboa, and the Correismo presidential candidate, Luisa González.
