MADRID, 18 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, stated this Wednesday that he has accepted the apology from the Minister of National Security of Argentina, Patricia Bullrich, for her statements about the alleged presence of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah in the Andean country, and has added that he has considered “the matter over.”

Boric, however, has stressed that his “duty” as president is to “defend the name and institutional seriousness of Chile in all instances,” and has stressed that his objective is to promote “permanent” collaboration between States to combat crime. transnational organized.

“If an authority from another country has a history of illegal activities in ours, what is appropriate is to raise it diplomatically, not through the press,” he criticized, through his profile on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter. .

These statements took place after Bullrich reported that he had held a telephone conversation with the Chilean Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, “with the purpose of conveying apologies regarding his recent statements,” clarifying that “these observations were made in the context of an analysis of the regional situation.

Likewise, the Argentine head has stated that these statements are part of “the responsibilities inherent to her position” and have not been made “with the intention of generating fear or alarm in Chile.” Finally, she has announced that she will hold a meeting in Chile next week with Tohá and has reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening relations and cooperation in security matters.

The controversy broke out at the beginning of the week after the aforementioned Argentine minister assured that there were some foreign regions close to Argentine territory – such as Iquique, in the north of Chile; the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo or in Peru – in which Hezbollah allies were supposedly present. This week the Chilean authorities have formally protested to the Argentine Government, after stating that it seems that the objective was to “damage the image” of the country.
