Argentine President Alberto Fernandez said in a televised speech Friday evening that the general isolation measures imposed last month as a measure to curb the spread of the Coruna virus will be extended until April 27.

He added that this measure will only apply to major cities.

Most of the population lives in urban areas such as Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Cordoba. Argentina has large areas of agricultural land, including the Pampars agricultural belt, which makes the country one of the largest food exporters in the world.

General isolation was imposed for the first time on March 20.

Fernandez said that the Argentines’ stay in their homes helped reduce the rate of new infections.

“We managed to slow down the new cases,” he added.

According to official data, Argentina has 1975 confirmed cases of corona so far, of which 82 have died.

“Without the general isolation measures, we could now have 45,000 cases …” The closure was not in vain, “Fernandez said.
