Sunil Ratthnayake (59) stares down at the teacup and takes a deep sigh. He is the deputy leader of the local branch of the Sri Lankan Peasants’ Union in the Hambantota district, in the far south of the country.
This is known as a particularly fertile area in a particularly fertile land. But in the last year, the crops have not been available.
