The folder was received by the candidate for prime minister, Asen Vasilev
President Rumen Radev handed over the first mandate to form the next government within the framework of the current parliament. The folder went to the PP as the first political force. It was received by the nominee for prime minister in a possible future cabinet, Asen Vassilev.
The party will have seven days to propose a government composition. If it is not approved, the mandate will go to GERB-SDS, who have already announced that they will return it. After that, the head of state will have to choose a third formation to give a chance to form a government.
“Bulgaria is in a political, economic and social crisis. Bulgarians express legitimate concerns about high prices, growing uncertainty and instability. And the reforms, as well as the funds under the Recovery Plan, are waiting for their implementation. Since yesterday, we also have a foreign policy crisis”, said the head of state before handing the folder with the investigative mandate to Vassilev.
Radev recalled that when handing over the PP’s mandate to form the current resigned government, he warned that “if decisive reforms in the judicial system are not undertaken in the first 100 days, the status quo will seek its revenge”.
The President emphasized that he expects adequate solutions and the defense of the national interest in building a free and prosperous Bulgaria.
Asen Vasilev accepted the mandate saying: “For me, this is a huge responsibility. We are already aware that in the crises that our country has to face, it is important to have a cabinet. It is extremely important that it also works in the interest of the citizens, and not of the status quo and really defend the Bulgarian interest and our independence – just like the first cabinet of the PP”.
