On the contrary, the transit of people and goods has increased », he pointed out.The President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, and the United Kingdom Ambassador to Spain, Hugh Elliott, held an institutional meeting today at the headquarters of the regional government to update the state of trade relations between the two territories, after the exit of this country from the European Union in 2020.For his part, Hugh Elliott, who attended the meeting with Revilla accompanied by other representatives from the Embassy, highlighted Cantabria’s historical links with the United Kingdom and, like the Cantabrian president, advocated strengthening those relations so that the commercial, cultural and travel exchange “goes further” in the future.In addition to welcoming the ambassador, the president stressed that the United Kingdom has always been a strategic country for the commercial and tourist balance of Cantabria and that, despite the initial fear that Brexit aroused, relations have not only suffered , but, on the contrary, have increased in recent years.As Revilla and Elliott have verified, the commercial and passenger flow between Cantabria and the United Kingdom has increased after Brexit, among other things, thanks to the commitment of the Government of Cantabria and the Santander Port Authority to promote maritime connections operated by Brittany Ferries.
