A wolf has been seen in Gironde in recent days. Photographs of a large canid taken in Braud-et-Saint-Louis, in Haute Gironde, on Sunday October 13, were analyzed by the French Biodiversity Office.who was able to prove that it was a wolf“. This was confirmed the prefecture of Gironde in a press release issued Monday evening.
Breeders called to be alert
In his press release, the prefect recalls “The wolf is a protected species that does not pose a threat to the population“. On the other hand, breeders are asked to be vigilant because there is a danger to the herds. Shelter is requested, if possible, from the herds. Already last weekend, in Cézac region, three cases of predation on sheep have been reported.
Breeders are asked to report any suspected attacks on flocks to the Directorate of the Department of Lands and the Sea on 05 47 30 51 72.
The prefect also specifies that an update on the situation will be made in the coming days and that intervention credits to finance protective equipment or fear that will be available to breeders, have been requested from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The wolf has not been seen in Gironde for more than a century.
