“The presence of the virus” of avian flu in France “is under control”, assured Wednesday February 24 Julien Denormandie. The Minister of Agriculture, however, called for vigilance: “It is migratory birds that bring us this virus. (…) So, at any moment, it can come back”, he warned. In total, three million farm animals, mostly ducks, were slaughtered since December.
No strain transmissible to humans
According to the minister, there are currently between seven and nine suspected cases under analysis. “Some outbreaks will probably be proven”, warned Julien Denormandie. If so, slaughter will take place. These cases are mainly located in the South West. The latest report from the ministry reports 472 breeding households, including 459 in the South-West.
Julien Denormandie also assured that the analyzes “all revealed that the virus present in France did not have the characteristics of transmission to humans” of the strain spotted in Russia, where seven people were infected in a poultry factory.
