The premiere of Jura Poškus’ comic drama “The sun shines 24 hours” is approaching.

According to director and screenwriter Juris Poškus, this existential comedy deals with the question of what to start when a person has achieved the “Latvian dream” – a house, a car, a successful business, a beautiful girlfriend. What’s next? The main character of the feature film “The sun shines 24 hours”, Mārtiņš, the owner of a paint business, successfully sells his company and decides to start life anew on his 40th birthday by going to the North Pole with his friends.

The film was shot in Riga and Tukuma region, as well as beyond the Arctic Circle, in the Russian arctic town of Tiksi, whose ironic portrayal in the film has now acquired a new, harsher context.

An international ensemble of actors participates in the film – Andris Keišs in the main role, together with the audience’s favorite Latvian actors Kaspars Znotiņš, Intars Rešetins, Kristīne Krūze-Hermane, while in supporting roles we will see Norwegian actors Trond Halbo and Jepi Beka Laursen, known in Europe.

The film “The sun shines 24 hours” does not lack the dose of humor characteristic of the director. Juris Poškus puts his characters in seemingly illogical situations, from which they escape as if by chance. Andris Keiš claims that in his filmography, which includes about 30 films, it is Mārtiņš’s character Jura Poškus in the film “The sun shines 24 hours” that is the most successful of all. Director Juris Poškus is known to a wider audience for the black and white comedy “Kolka Cool”.

The film was made in the studio “FA Filma”. The cinematographer of the film is the Norwegian Mārtins J. Edelstēns, the authors of the script are Juris Poškus and Aleksandrs Rodionovs, the producer is Madara Melberga, the artist is Toms Grīnbergs, Paula Popmane took care of editing in cooperation with Juri Poškus. The distributors of the film “The sun shines 24 hours” in Latvia are the studio “Riverbed” and the association “Kinopunkts”.

The film was made with the funding of the National Cinema Center, the Ministry of Culture, the State Cultural Capital Fund and Creative Europe Media. The film is supported by KRASO, Latvian Academy of Culture, Ethnofund, Sakha Film, BBrental.eu, Cinevilla, Fans.lv, Capital and others.
