The premiere of Jānis Šipkēvics mini opera will take place at the Latvian National Opera
Riga, May 19, LETA. On June 4, the Latvian National Opera will host the premiere of the choir mini-opera “Babīte Baobabs”, staged by the Latvian Amateur Choir, Babīte Parish Cultural Education Center mixed choir “Maska” conducted by Jānis Ozols, producer Zane Johansone informed LETA.
The author of the opera’s music is the singer and composer Jānis Šipkēvics, but the lyrics were created by the poet Marts Pujāts.
“Babīte Baobabs” is a mixed opera of mixed choir, soloists and instruments – four-handed piano, bass guitar and percussion. A new production of this type will take place in Latvian choral music for the first time, the producer points out.
“The choir will turn from a usually stationary sound source into a moving ensemble, becoming part of the scenographic design of the show, which is closely intertwined with the direction of the production movements,” says Ozols, the author of the idea for “Babīte Baobabs” and conductor of the choir “Maska”.
In the story of the production, viewers will be able to experience a trip through the waves of Lake Babīte, looking for a growing baobab. “” Babīte’s baobab “is a story about how a boy and a girl drove across Babīte’s lake to look for Babīte’s baobab, but also found each other. And” Baipab “
The director of the choir’s mini-opera movements is choreographer and movement artist Elīna Gediņa, while the scenography and costumes have been created by set designer Pamela Butāne. The main element of the visual design of the production is the stage costumes of the choir singers. The director of the movement interacts closely with the scenography and uses the changing image of the choir to tell the story of the production, Johansone informs.
After the premiere, the production of “Babīte baobabs” is planned to perform elsewhere in Latvia.
