The Premier League creates an alert system for …

The Premier League works against racism. It launched a platform allowing players, coaches, managers or members of their families to denounce insults of a discriminatory nature of which they are the victims on social networks.

“Each case will be studied, reported to the platform concerned, will be investigated and, if necessary, brought to court,” the Premier League said in its statement. “Discriminatory insults (red: racist, sexist, homophobic, …) online are unacceptable under any circumstances and tackling this problem must be a priority,” said Richard Masters, the boss of the Premier League.

“There are too many cases of footballers and their families receiving appalling insults of a discriminatory nature and no one should have to go through this,” he added. Recently, the former English international striker of Arsenal, Ian Wright, who works as a consultant for the BBC, had denounced the racist insults he receives “daily”, especially since his support for the anti-racist movement Black Lives Matter.

In May, an Irish teenager, whose private racist messages he had rebroadcast, went to the police. Between various racist terms to designate the 56-year-old former player, the young boy had written “if I catch the corona (virus), I will cough on your face, I will give you your death sentence”.

“I know I shouldn’t be watching them, but these messages hit me so hard. He’s a child! This kid has a direct line to me and can send it to me without any problem, ”wrote Wright to accompany the screenshots of the messages.
