The prefecture announces “reinforced controls” on the roads of Eure-et-Loir during the holidays

Twenty Eurelian gendarmes were mobilized for a control operation on the A11, at the Chartres Est toll booth, this Friday 23 December 2022.

Colonel Stéphane Tourtin, in command of the Eure-et-Loir gendarmerie group, explains the purpose of this operation:

“It is a speed check to demonstrate the presence of the police and to reassure the population. We are in a period of celebrations, but also of departures on vacation, with heavy traffic. Three checkpoints were set up for this operation: one to measure the speed of the vehicles, one for interception and a final one for reporting. The goal is to put those who drive too fast and who represent a danger to users out of circulation”.

Chartres: 20 motorists tested positive for alcohol and 14 had their license revoked in the night from Saturday to Sunday

The purpose of this military presence on the department’s main roads is to prevent this delicate period in terms of accidents, underlines Yann Gérard, secretary general of the prefecture of Eure-et-Loir and sub-prefect of Chartres:

“Traditionally road traffic increases during the festive period. This is even more true this year with the disruptions to the SNCF. We therefore wanted to set up reinforced road controls. The objective is to prevent accidents and sanction dangerous behavior that can be observed on the streets, such as on the highways.

“Checks will be carried out every day”

The secretary general of the prefecture adds: “The police forces on the roads will thus be mobilized as much as possible to carry out prevention. Checks will be carried out every day. When you get behind the wheel, you must respect the highway code. “

Yann Gérard details the crimes targeted during all these school holidays, and in particular this weekend and New Year’s:

“We are mainly targeting offenses related to speed, safety distances, but also alcohol consumption in particular. This is one of the biggest drivers of accidents and road deaths in the department.”

23deaths in 2022 on Eurelian roads (roads and highways).

218road accidents, in 2022 in Eure-et-Loir, including 5 on motorway sections in the department.
