the prefect of Côte-d’Or changes his mind, the supporters of Saint-Étienne will be able to come to the DFCO-ASSE match this Saturday

After initially banning supporters of the Greens from moving, the prefect of Côte-d’Or returned to his decision on Tuesday. AS Saint-Etienne supporters will be able to go to the Gaston-Gérard stadium this Saturday, July 30 for the resumption of the Ligue 2 football championship.

A relief for the supporters of the Greens, for a decision which should put the atmosphere at the Gaston-Gérard stadium this Saturday. For the resumption of the Ligue 2 championship and the Dijon-Saint-Etienne match, the Côte-d’Or prefecture finally decided to authorize the arrival of Saint-Etienne supporters on July 30.

AS Saint-Etienne supporters will therefore be able to come under conditions which remain to be defined by the prefecture, and which will be communicated by this Wednesday, July 27.

On July 19, the prefect of Côte-d’Or had nevertheless decided to ban the presence of ASSE supporters at the Dijon stadium, judging that there was “a proven risk of public order disturbances”. In question, ASSE’s last match in Burgundy: on May 29, during the L1/L2 return play-off, AS Saint-Etienne fell to AJ Auxerre (who had, in fact, won their ticket to move up to Ligue 1).

At the time of the Auxerre victory, violence had broken out on the lawn: ultras from Saint-Etienne had invaded the field and launched smoke bombs and firecrackers in the stands. Result: around forty minor injuries and 500,000 euros in damage.

Following these incidents, the Professional Football League imposed heavy penalties on ASSE: three penalty points and four games behind closed doors for the 2022-2023 season.
