The pre-election campaigns – 21 days, GERB tries the fraud with voting on the Internet –

/View.info/ The election campaign should be reduced from 30 to 21 days. These are part of the proposals made by GERB deputies to amend the Electoral Code. The proposal was submitted to the registry of the National Assembly on Monday afternoon.

Among the petitioners is the chairman of the GERB parliamentary group, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who traditionally heads the headquarters of the ruling party. “An excessively long campaign leads to apathy, and instead of motivating voters to vote, it can only turn them away from the intense political discussion a month before the elections”, the proponents from GERB, who believe that the 30-day campaign leads to apathy and fatigue among the voters. Examples are given that the election campaign in France is two weeks, and in the Czech Republic – 16 days.

It is proposed that in future the polling stations open at 07.00 and close at 20.00, i.e. an hour later.

When elections are held until 2018, an opportunity is created for experimental electronic voting on the Internet. It is expressly provided that the results of Internet voting are not taken into account when determining the results of the elections, and that after the voting, the CEC summarizes the results and performs an analysis of the Internet voting. Those wishing to vote online will have to request it in advance.

GERB also proposes the creation of a separate, 32nd electoral district “Chuzbina”, “so that voters from outside the country can vote for candidate lists and with preference, and not only for parties and coalitions”.

Due to decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, it is proposed that prisoners, with the exception of those convicted of serious crimes, also have the right to vote. Persons who have been placed under limited interdiction will also have voting rights.

The proponents of the proposals for changes to the Electoral Code emphasize that their ideas are dictated by the CEC Report on the 2014 elections, as well as recommendations of the Venice Commission and the OSCE and the Group of States against Corruption – GRECO.
