The PQ will have a lot of work to do

For several months, the CAQ has been slipping in the polls. The Parti Québécois is resurrected. His winning combination? A popular leader and the return to the fold of CAQ voters disappointed until now by the Legault government.

According to the latest Léger/The newspaper, the PQ rises to first place. Its leader, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon (PSPP) is also first in the “who would make the best prime minister?” category.

The trend is clear, but is it a strong trend? Time will tell.

Robust order

For the PQ leader and his three deputies, the order promises to be tough. If they want to maintain and then expand their support between now and the 2026 elections, they will have a lot of work on their plate.

As I wrote yesterday, they must start working on their future platform. Rightly, voters are first of all furious at the pitiful state of public health and education networks.

As a potential alternative to the CAQ, the PQ will have to present concrete and, above all, credible solutions.

On his sovereignist option, the survey confirms that his work of conviction promises to be just as demanding. Barely 27% of French speakers think that sovereignty could be achieved one day.

As for the promise to hold a referendum in a first mandate, 41% of French speakers say that it would encourage them less to vote PQ.

Divided opinion

When offered the choice, 42% of Francophones prefer sovereignty compared to 37% wishing to sign the 1982 Canadian constitution.

In short, the state of French-speaking public opinion regarding the national question is polarized. The debate has not yet really taken place in the public space under the current leader of the PQ, who knows, however, whether or not these figures would change the day it takes place before and during the electoral campaign.

For PSPP and his team, the conclusion is obvious. They have three years to refine and renew their political communication on their option.
