The PP of Gijón fulminates its spokesman, López Asenjo and names Ángela Pumariega leader of the municipal group | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

New mess in the PP of Gijón. The pulse between the president of the Local Board, Pablo González and the one who until this Wednesday was spokesman for the municipal group, Alberto López Asenjo, has been settled in favor of the first. In a statement published late in the afternoon, the departure of Asenjo from the spokesperson and his replacement by Ángela Pumariega, number two on the list of the 2019 elections, has been made effective.

The conservatives, in a meeting in which the general secretary of the PP of Asturias, Álvaro Queipo, has participated, have given the green light for the change. The statement says that “it has been agreed, by a majority of its councilors, to proceed to reorganize the spokespersons” although the truth is that the tension between the president, the conservative Gijón, the deputy Pablo González and Asenjo had been brewing for a few weeks. The underlying reason was the lack of economic contribution to the party, something that left the formation in a delightful situation.

The last chapter was written this Wednesday after alleged pressure was revealed on the City Council’s auditor to take the accounts of the previous municipal group to the Court of Accounts. López Asenjo himself has issued a statement rejecting this purpose and assuring that it was an action framed “in the necessary context of access to information that may affect the interests of the training I represent.” He also pointed out that “no action has taken place without the knowledge and consent of the party’s top officials.” López Asenjo has lived this Wednesday his last plenary session as spokesman while the party has urgently summoned its Local Board to ratify the changes.
