ZTE annually releases two versions of its gaming phones, the most recent of which is the Redmagic 8 Pro, which we reviewed a few months ago, and then the Redmagic 8S Pro, which it launched on July 11 in China, where it arrived in our hands a few weeks later. We have experience with Redmagic phones estimated at two generations, or what translates into four versions, starting with the Redmagic 7 Pro and then the Redmagic 7S Pro, which makes us fully aware of what distinguishes these mighty beasts and crowns them as kings on the throne of gaming phones.
Over the past weeks, we have tested the Redmagic 8S Pro phone, which is a younger or more recent brother of the Redmagic 8 Pro phone, since it did not present significant changes from the previous version, so what is the worst change for the sake of change, however we can say that it avoids some of the defects of what preceded it behind The scenes, and what kind of scenes do you expect to find in a phone dedicated to games other than the hardware and the cooling system?! During the trial and testing of the phone, it revealed to us that we are facing the most powerful phone made by man, which we will confirm in our review of it.

Components of the Box – What’s Missing in Three Times More Expensive Phones!
There is no need to mention the packaging of the Redmagic 8S Pro phone because it did not differ significantly from the previous version, the packaging is still upscale and confirms the wonderful identity of the phone aimed at gamers. There’s nothing new about the manga around the bottom case no matter how different it is because no one cares, and there are no differences worth mentioning about the drawings and writings engraved on the shiny silver case that looks like a box from the future.
The box components also did not differ from the previous version, as both phones come with a 65W charger head for the global version and a USB Type-C wire, in addition to the screen protection sticker and the transparent protection cover that we are familiar with from Redmagic, in addition to the usage guide, warranty, identification card and chip removal pin, and these components lack It has phones that are three times more expensive, do you remember the Galaxy Z Fold 5?!
Design – no need to change just for the sake of change…
If we look at the design from an engineering point of view, that is, regardless of the writings and graphics that make it stand out, we will not find significant differences between the design of the Redmagic 8S Pro phone and the previous version. Yes, we cannot blame a factory for keeping something as it is as long as this thing fulfills the purpose, so what is the wisdom of changing the design of the phone if it is wonderful?! Perhaps the only major change is the thickness, which has increased from 8.9mm to 9.5mm, yet the weight has not increased by even one gram! We have another change, which is the writings and graphics on the back of the phone, and we will not address it because we are in the process of reviewing a phone and not a comparison article between two versions of Redmagic phones.
Let’s talk a little about the design of the phone that we got, which is one of the most luxurious and simplest designs we’ve seen for a gaming phone. The entire phone is colored silver with a plastic-like texture, although it is supposed to be protected by Gorilla Glass 5, and it is sanded with circular patterns and is highly reflective. The Redmagic logo takes its usual place, which is the lower part of the back of the phone. Writings and drawings occupy the left side longitudinally; The first refers to the cooling system, the second refers to the Redmagic name, and the third refers to the tactile “Triggers” shoulder buttons. Other than that, there are no other writings or drawings.
The three camera lenses are still vertically located in the middle of the upper part – of course – on the back of the phone, and above it is the “Flash” light. We move on to the other parts of the phone’s body, the most important of which is the flat screen with semi-circular corners and the four thin sides of equal thickness for each of the two parallel sides. The front camera, acceleration and proximity sensors do not appear because they are buried under the screen, as we are used to recently from Redmagic. The metal frame is still flat and filled with the eight “Antennas” network antennas and the three microphones distributed along it, and the location of the air intake and exhaust holes, the power and volume buttons, and the red slider button has not changed.
The screen – nothing new or old to be repeated!
The Redmagic 8S Pro phone offers the same screen as the previous version, literally, in terms of dimensions, protection layer, and technical specifications. The screen is huge AMOLED size 6.8, with a resolution of 1116 x 2480p and a density of 400 pixels per inch, with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a super touch sensitivity of 960Hz, and it also supports a billion colors and high color accuracy with a standard ΔE < 1 and finally a high brightness of 1300 nits, and these are really impressive specifications that you may not find Some high class phones!
These previous specifications only translate into a great experience that pleases any user, respects his mentality, and makes him feel the value of every dollar he paid in purchasing the phone, and ensures that he does not pay attention to any phone that offers a similar screen if the purchase of the phone depends on the capabilities of the screen. The screen is of high resolution and brightness, and the colors are varied and accurate. to the extreme, and its high refresh rate provides a smooth and comfortable viewing experience, and its super response rate provides a very accurate and sensitive touch experience, so what is missing?!
Acoustics – a decent listening experience:
The Redmagic 8S Pro phone did not provide any significant change in the level of acoustics compared to the Redmagic 8 Pro phone, just as it did not provide any change regarding the screen, but in general it is okay with the supported audio technologies despite our desire for further improvement. The phone offers two stereo speakers, three microphones, and a 3.5mm port that supports 384KHz audio and 32-bit data rate. Just like the previous version, the speakers deliver a good sound, but the treble is predominated and the deep sounds are hidden in the balance of the mids, while the sounds audible wired and wireless are the best that can be obtained at the price of the phone.
Camera – Redmagic 8S Pro isn’t a camera phone but it’s OK:
The phone comes with a triple rear camera; 50MP primary, 1/1.57-inch Samsung GN5 sensor, F/1.88 aperture, 8MP ultra-wide, 120-degree F/2.2 aperture, 2MP macro, F/2.4 aperture, 16MP single front camera, F/2.0 aperture . The primary camera supports 8K video shooting at 30 frames per second, 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, and 1080p resolution at 240 frames per second, while the front camera supports 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, and these are great numbers.
We confirm over and over again that it is a gaming phone and is not intended for photography in any way, however we can describe the camera performance as good in general. The primary lens provides great images in good lighting conditions, as the images are sharp, clear, and realistic in color, and I have no negative comment on them, but they do not perform well in low-light conditions. The ultra-wide lens applies to the previous matter, except that the pictures are sometimes faded, blurry, and lose their correctness with the “Exposure” exposure, while the macro was disappointing and unreliable. Finally, the front camera does not perform well except in strong lighting conditions due to the small sensor.
Cooling System – A Behind the Scenes Evolution!
We do not exaggerate if we say that the Redmagic 8S Pro phone did not provide a noticeable development except for the cooling system, the Cortex X3 core frequency, and the thickness! Redmagic has developed a new cooling system, ICE 12.0, which is an improved cooling system that takes advantage of High Thermal Conductivity “Gel”, super heat-dissipating Composite Graphene, huge vapor heatsink, and finally an ultra-fast cooling fan, which results in lower Temperature by 2 degrees Celsius while charging and using the phone and by 1.3 degrees for the CPU.
If we go deeper under the back cover, we will find that the phone offers three amazing pieces for gaming phone cooling systems. The phone offers the largest vapor cooling chamber with a volume of 2068 cubic millimeters, which increases its thickness and efficiency by twice the previous version! To protect the screen from the flames of the phone’s internal hardware, Redmagic added a plate made of graphene to improve heat capacity by 150%. The cooling fan still has 59 0.1mm thick blades – the same thickness as the blades of super laptops – and has a capacity of 20,000 RPM and supports RGB lights.
Performance tests – little monster!
We will not go too deep into listing the performance of the phone because we will devote a detailed article to all tests, so we will mention a brief about the performance of the phone. The Redmagic 8S Pro leads the way in the famous AnTuTu platform, achieving 1,646,625 points, a difference of more than 40,000 points from the ROG 7 Pro! The phone achieves great performance in games, as the phone was able to run the game Call of Duty: Mobile at Medium graphics at a rate of 120 frames per second and at a rate of 60 frames per second at Very High graphics, and it was also able to run the game New State: Mobile at a rate of 90 frames per second at Ultra graphics.
What about battery performance?
The Redmagic 8S Pro phone does not differ from the previous version with regard to battery size and charging speed, and since the internal hardware has not changed almost, it goes without saying that the battery performance will not differ significantly. It takes only 35 minutes for the phone’s 6000mAh battery to be fully charged with a 65W phone charger. The battery offers an outstanding performance estimated at more than 5 hours of hard use, and the distinction still exists between the global and Chinese version, as the latter comes with an 80W charger, and I really hope that the matter will change later.
Features of the Redmagic 8S Pro:
A distinctive design that is very elegant and luxurious, it pleases the eyes and enchants the eyes. High-end and solid manufacturing materials with protective layers ensure the safety of the phone from scratches and bumps. Slim and proportional dimensions ensure comfortable use with a well-distributed weight across the entire body of the phone. Excellent screen, large size and high resolution, with superior refresh rate and touch sensitivity, high brightness and wide color gamut. Stereo sound system provides loud and clear sound, high quality wired and wireless audio delivery. A primary rear camera with a high-class sensor that takes great photos in strong lighting conditions, and records high-resolution videos at an appropriate frame rate. The world’s most powerful internal hardware, from processor to RAM to storage, delivers legendary performance in all conditions. Industry-leading multi-layer cooling system made of high heat dissipation materials ensures that the phone is cooled under pressure. A gigantic battery withstands long periods of hard use, and a powerful charger fills it up quickly. Smooth software that manages hardware perfectly, regulates power consumption, and focuses on delivering an immersive gaming experience.
Disadvantages of the Redmagic 8S Pro:
The phone did not provide developments worth updating it from the previous version, as they are almost identical. The camera is still bad in low light conditions, and all lenses except for the basic ones are not the best that can be offered from a gaming phone. We have reservations about distinguishing between the global and Chinese version in terms of the included charger.
Redmagic 8S Pro price:
Begins The price of the phone Globally, from $649 for the Midnight Black version with a capacity of 256GB/12GB, while the price of our Platinum version is $779 with a capacity of 512GB/16GB, while the price of the transparent black Aurora version is $799 with a capacity of 512GB/16GB. These are the same prices as the Redmagic 8 Pro phone at the time of its launch, which makes the lack of differences between the phone something acceptable, as the company has raised the processor frequency slightly and increased the thickness of the phone to accommodate the new cooling system, however it did not raise the prices, and given the advantages of the Redmagic 8S Pro phone, we find It is a profitable deal by all accounts for whoever will buy it.

The phone does not offer many changes from the previous version, and that is only because the change was not required. Getting close to the ideal sometimes requires not taking risks trying to reach it. However, it can be said that the changes occurred behind the scenes, and the final result is the most powerful phone made by man!
