The Powerball jackpot continues to rise after no tickets match all six numbers drawn on Saturday night. The jackpot rises to an estimated $ 480 million for the draw on Monday (10/17/2022) and has a cash value of $ 242.2 million, the lottery organizer said.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on August 3, when a Pennsylvania ticket hit all five white balls and the red Powerball to win a $ 206.9 million jackpot. Since then, the game has had 31 consecutive draws without a grand prize winner. If a player wins the Powerball jackpot on Monday, it would be the second largest jackpot in the game this year.
In addition to the August 3 jackpot, four more Powerball jackpots were won in 2022, including a $ 632.6 million jackpot won on January 5 and split between winners in California and Wisconsin; a $ 185.3 million jackpot won in Connecticut on February 14; $ 473.1 million jackpot won in Arizona on April 27; and a $ 366.7 million jackpot won in Vermont on June 29.
Powerball tickets cost $ 2 per game. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Jackpot winners can choose to receive their prize as an annuity, paid in 30 tiered payments over 29 years, or as a lump sum. Both advertised pricing options are pre-tax. The overall probability of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
To date, Powerball holds the world record for the largest jackpot established in 2016. The record jackpot of $ 1.586 billion was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee.
