“The Power of Wholesome Content: A Celebration of Joy and Cheer”

Late to the wholesome content trend, I’m discovering the joy of social media posts that counter the darker content that often dominates our feeds. Wholesome content includes everything from kittens and babies to surprise family reunions and energetic jives by older folks at weddings. Unlike disturbing content that seeps into our consciousness like an unexplained noise at night, wholesome content arrives like an unexpected bouquet of flowers that cheers us up. While virtual wholesomeness is great, experiencing it in real life is even better. Moments or encounters that land like a sunrise and taste like the first slice of toast in the maternity hospital are pure goodness. At a recent gathering, I stumbled upon some deeply wholesome content from an unexpected source – a Brack Club for senior citizens. John and Liz, both in their 70s, are avid members of the club where they eat a different tea brack each month, delivered to their door. They were nervous at first, but it turned out to be a real delight, with a deliciously different flavor each time. John even rhapsodized about one that tasted like prosecco, black peppercorns, white chocolate, strawberries, and sultanas, with rose-infused sugar!

I’m now seeing wholesome content everywhere, from a friend’s magic jumper that belonged to his grandmother to children’s productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang where little actors dress up as gingerbread people and enthusiastically wave at their parents in the audience. Even the most mundane things can feel wholesome, like a colleague proudly showing off his son’s school project. At a recent teenage party we hosted, the entertainment was a game of “keeping the balloon up in the air,” which filled me with joy and hope for the future. As I cozy up under the duvet to watch Schitt’s Creek, the very epitome of wholesome content, I realize it’s the only content I’m here for these days. Pass the ridiculously fancy brack, please!
