REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Content cholesterol that increases over the age of 30 can significantly increase the chance of developing heart disease. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the food and drink consumed to keep cholesterol levels from soaring.

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) lists a number of causes of high cholesterol. Some of the main triggers are excessive consumption of fatty foods, lack of exercise, being overweight, smoking and drinking alcohol.

Too much cholesterol can clog blood vessels, making a person more likely to have heart disease or stroke. The problem is, high cholesterol has no symptoms, and is only diagnosed if you have had a blood test.

Not long ago, in a podcast ZOE, Dr. Sarah Berry introduced the concept of a portfolio diet to control cholesterol levels. Berry explained it was a major nutritional science experiment demonstrating the power of food in relation to health.

“What you have to do is replace certain foods in your diet with other foods and ingredients that have been shown to lower cholesterol, and that is centered on four key elements — soy protein, plant sterols, nuts, and soluble fiber,” says Berry, as quoted from the page Daily RecordThursday (27/7/2023).
