Czechoslovak Radio (ČsRo) was a Czechoslovak state organization operating radio broadcasts in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1992. As early as 1945, two companies, Czech Radio and Slovak Radio, operated under the common banner of Czechoslovak Radio.
After nationalization in 1948, Czechoslovak Radio became a propaganda and censored media of the regime, and according to the law, the activities of CsRo were based on the policy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.

Social relaxation in the 1960s was also reflected in the radio, and in August 1968 and during the occupation of Czechoslovakia, fights broke out over its building. During the subsequent normalization, radio was once again part of socialist politics. In November 1989, during the Velvet Revolution, ČsRo workers joined the protests and informed the public about current events in their programs.
New beginnings
In democratic Czechoslovakia, two new public entities, Czech and Slovak Radio, were subsequently created on the national principle, which took over most of the broadcasts.
In 1992, ČsRo only ensured the operation of one national station and foreign broadcasting. Czechoslovak Radio ended its broadcasting with the dissolution of Czechoslovakia at the end of 1992.

In this turbulent period, the radio management was more focused on the age category between 15 and 20 years, educating the youth in the spirit of the ideology of the time.

An important role was played by live broadcasting, which brought not only direct contact with the listener, but also room for spontaneity and authenticity. Programs like Mikroforum have become an important element of radio broadcasting, connecting listeners with current events and popular music.
