For example, the popular radio DJ and internet personality made a parody of a moment from B&B Vol Liefde. It was about the moment when participant Menno tried to climb a wall in France. That failed and was the perfect fragment for Bram Krikke to poke fun at. He copied it and posted it to his Instagram, with the caption, “An ode to my favorite clip.”

According to reviewer Vergouwen, things like this definitely help a program. “If a show is extremely popular, then something will automatically be selected. With social media, that goes a lot faster.”

Petri’s statements on TikTok

For example, a statement from B&B Vol Love has been given wings by TikTok. It is about something that B&B owner Petri says to participant Hans after he had pruned her tree. “I’ll take off my sunglasses. I arrive here and I’m not happy at all,” she says. On TikTok, people turn it into memes.

B&B Vol Liefde is by no means the only show that has achieved success with quotes. In the meantime there have been plenty of programs with statements that became a big hit. Think of ‘it’s crazy’ from Geer en Goor or Rob Geus with his well-known ‘man, man, man’.

Sometimes it even becomes part of our language use. “Some things linger and even make it to the dictionary,” says Vergouwen.

Do the TV makers of B&B Vol Liefde really focus on ‘creating’ memorable statements? Vergouwen doesn’t think so. “This is unintentional, but I imagine the makers were really happy with it and had a kind of eureka moment,” he said. “Program makers are very happy if you have a good quote that everyone is talking about.”
