One of the main aspects of the iPhone that Apple has been focusing on in recent years is the camera. In fact, more and more people are beginning to affirm that the iPhone is no longer a smartphone with a camera, but a camera with smartphone, and I would not say that they are very misguided. More if we see photos like the ones we can take of the moon.
Apple introduced its three-camera system with the iPhone 11 Pro. It has been improving release after release, and today it is surely the most complete in the world of smartphones. Precisely for this reason, the IPPAWARDS are held every year, in which the best photographs taken with an iPhone are selectedand the results of this edition are curious to say the least.
The best photograph: an iPhone 12 Pro
One might think that the best photography of this year would have been taken by an iPhone 14 Pro, but no. The artist is Iván Saliva, from Jalisco, Mexico, and he has shown that it matters more who operates the camera than the camera itself. The image is that of a child on a truck that transports wood with outstretched arms and a Messi shirt.
Best Photographer: Thea Mihu
Thea Mihu is a German who, although he has not received the award for the best photo, he has been recognized as the best photographer. To the contest, he submitted a photograph taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max in which a man is seen cleaning clay pots. Again, it’s fascinating that he chose to use a two-year-old device instead of the newer one, which in principle should be better.
Sasa Borozán: the second best
Sasa Borozán is a Serbian winner of the second prize in this contest. For his image, in which a boy is seen throwing a rope into the sea from what appears to be a jetty in black and white, he has used an iPhone 13 Pro. Small zodiacs and mountains can be seen in the background that add a unique touch to the composition.
Derek Hager: the third, and with an iPhone X
The iPhone X was—and still is—a real smartphone. However, it is true that when comparing its camera system with a more current one, it lags a bit behind. Still, the American Derek Hager has managed to win the third prize in this contest with one of his photographs. It’s also in black and white, and it’s done on a roof top of a building in Texas where it plays very well with shadows.
The truth is that all these images are impressive. The most curious thing is that none has been captured by an iPhone 14 Pro, which is the latest model. That shows that it will always be more important who takes the photo than what he takes it with. From Applesfera we want to congratulate all the winners of this prestigious award, and we hope that they continue doing what they like the most, whatever it may be.
