Although it has entered the era of adaptation of new habits or new normal, there are still those who do not adhere to health protocols such as maintaining distance and wearing masks.

Meanwhile, the number of cases of corona virus continues to grow every day in Indonesia.

On Sunday (6/29/2020), 1,198 new cases were announced by the Government of Indonesia, bringing the total number of cases to 54,010.

People are reminded to understand the risks if they are in a crowded place, especially if they neglect the corona virus transmission prevention protocol.

Danger of crowds without complying with health protocols

Seeing the increasing trend of cases that are still happening and the behavior of people in this crowded place, epidemiologist from Griffith University, Dicky Budiman, said, the magnitude of the challenges of the corona virus pandemic in Indonesia.

“This increase is because there are still many (more than 90 percent) of the world’s population do not have immunity. That is, the potential for this virus to spread remains. Moreover, if efforts to change behavior are not adhered to, then the speed of spread will increase,” said Dicky when contacted Kompas.com, Sunday (6/28/2020).

Dicky said, crowds in any form and the gathering of large numbers of people by not obeying the rules of distance and bermasker will increase the risk of transmission of Covid-19.

In addition, he also warned of two types of transmission sources, namely:

• Transmission that occurs in the community through local transmission or local transmission
• Transmission due to import cases (originating from outside the region)

“That is, control programs carried out in areas such as behavior change, isolation, testing, and tracing of cases, cannot be separated from tightening at the entrance of the country / region),” said Dicky.

Meanwhile, contacted separately, a doctor from the UGM Department of Health Policy and Management, Giovanni van Empel, regretted the condition of Indonesia which he considered had not shown effectiveness in reducing the trend of adding positive cases.

The increasing number of crowds without accompanying health protocols has the potential to increase the number of cases and have an impact on medical personnel.

“As a result, exposure to medical personnel who have served since the beginning of the pandemic to this day has the potential to experience burnout (fatigue). Within a week, there were only medical officers who were victims of Covid-19, “said Giovanni.

Factors that increase the risk of transmission

The places that can be the existence of a combination of these factors include:

How to strike a curve

Dicky also reminded the public to instill an understanding that everyone has an important role in slowing the spread of Covid-19.

“Wearing a mask, washing hands, keeping a distance (3M) is very basic and useful for helping to curve the curve,” he said.

In line with Dicky, Giovanni also called for measures to reduce the spread of the corona virus in the community.

“Countries that effectively suppress the rate of increment of cases, the formula remains the same, limit mobility, conduct massive tests for identification and isolation, as well as the implementation of health protocols in various places,” said Giovanni.
