There has been a lot of discussion about the pesticide, known as the widely used Roundup from manufacturer Monsanto, for years. Some researchers believe the drug is carcinogenic and can cause Parkinson’s disease. Moreover, it would seriously harm an important pollinator such as the bee and many other animal species.
To stop the extension, at least fifteen EU member states are needed, which together represent at least 65 percent of the EU population. That seems out of sight. Many Southern and Eastern European member states have already supported it.
Such a generous majority is actually required to approve the longer admission, but it can still proceed without it. If the vote is indecisive, even in a second round in a few weeks, it will be up to the European Commission. He proposed the extension.
