The Potato Shortage Debate: Importing Cypriot Potatoes or Israeli Potatoes?

This is a debate post. It expresses the debater’s own attitude.

Kato Nykvist has a comment in the newspaper on 17 January about a shortage of certain agricultural products in Norway. About the potato shortage, he says: “We just have to import more Cypriot potatoes”

Yes, if it were that good. Cyprus potatoes have not been common in Trønder shops for several years. Now it is potatoes from “selected Mediterranean countries” that apply. And the selected country is always Israel! It appears in very small print on the packages.

I asked a shop employee last year why they camouflaged that the potatoes came from Israel, why they never advertised it, writes Per Egil Mjaavatn.

Why do people get hysterical because we lack some milk?

Peasant romance?

Spring 2023 In addition to French delicatessen potatoes, only new Israeli potatoes were available in many shops. I asked a store employee last year why they camouflaged that the potatoes came from Israel, why they never advertised it. “But then nobody would buy the potatoes,” she replied. Need I say more? Cyprus is an excellent country.

Children and mobile phones: Why is it so difficult? Adresseavisen and Litteraturhuset organize a conversation on the topic on Monday 22 January at 19.
