The reason is the extreme increase in packages in the run-up to Christmas. The measure is also operationally prepared for the next weekends in December. Matyáš Vitík, a spokesman for the post office, told ČTK today. The post office has a total of 3200 branches.

In case of interest from customers, the company will ensure an extraordinary opening of the largest post offices also in the next pre-Christmas weekends.
The post office hired around 4,000 part-timers for this year’s pre-Christmas season. According to the spokesman, he will still need another one. Next week will determine the decisive day for the delivery of packages before Christmas.
So far, the biggest stress test for the post office was last Friday and the weekend associated with the Black Friday event. During those days, it had a record 1.08 million shipments in the network, which is double what it was a year ago. The increase in the number of consignments is related to the closure of stone shops due to coronavirus.
