The positive cases of COVID-19 amount to 3,260 with an additional 71 in Puerto Rico



The unique positive cases of COVID-19 in Puerto Rico increased this Monday to 3,260 after the Health Department added 71 new infected.

Likewise, deaths associated with the disease amounted to 129 with the death of an 81-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man than resided in the Ponce and Arecibo regions, respectively. These deaths were certified by medical criteria.

“With the two fatalities added, the total number of deaths recorded through the Surveillance System remain at 61 and those reported through the Demographic Registry add up to 68,” Salud said in a press release.

It was reported that the results of the 71 new cases are divided into 10 processed by means of molecular tests and 61 by serological examinations. The total of positive cases corresponds to 1,650 women and 1,610 men.

Meanwhile, the number of patients hospitalized for the virus stood at 112, six more than yesterday. Of that total, 16 are confined in an Intensive Care Unit and eight are connected to an artificial respirator.

To date, hospitals have 3,093 beds and 825 artificial respirators available for adults, while free pediatric beds total 1,044.

On the other hand, Culebra remains the only municipality with no cases of the virus, while San Juan continues to be the one with the highest incidence of the disease with 468 cases. Bayamón (206), Guaynabo (175) and Carolina (137) follow.

Regarding the age groups with the most reported cases, the 50-59 age group is the first with 671 cases, followed by the 40-49 year old (583) and the 30-39 year old (513).
