According to a media report, currently clubless soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of signing a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
The 37-year-old Portuguese national team captain has reportedly signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club, Spanish newspaper ‘Marca’ reported on Wednesday. As a result, the total volume of the deal, including advertising revenue, is expected to be around €200m per season. Ronaldo has been without a club since he left Manchester United last week.
US broadcaster CBS Sport had previously reported on an offer from the Saudi club. The club could sign the 2016 European champions on a free transfer. Two days before Ronaldo’s first World Cup appearance for Portugal in Qatar, his previous club Manchester United announced a friendly split. Ronaldo had previously criticized the club heavily in an interview and said, among other things, that he felt “betrayed” by the traditional English club.
Former Bundesliga professional Luiz Gustavo and Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina are also signed to Al-Nassr, the club managed by French coach Rudi Garcia. Ronaldo had left his future open since he split from United. He is already in the round of 16 with Portugal, and will follow up with the final group match against South Korea on Friday. With his goal in the 3-2 draw against Ghana, Ronaldo is now the only player to have scored in five different World Cups .
