The Port of Adra Park hosts the ‘Ecoferia’ this Saturday – News

The mayor of Adra, Manuel Cortés, and the president of the Association of Rural Families and Women (AFAMMER) in Andalusia and Almería, Rita Mateos, have presented the ‘Ecoferia’ that will host the Port Park of the ancient city this Saturday , April 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. An “unmissable” event that comes to Adra within the framework of AFAMMER’s ‘Roots: Women, Agroecology and Proximity’ program, focused on organic and local agriculture.

The mayor has shown his “excitement” for this event, which he predicts will be “a complete success,” and has thanked the association and its president for choosing Adra as the venue for its celebration, “an eminently agricultural city.” In this sense, the mayor has highlighted this fair, whose main objective “is to promote the production and consumption of local foods, supporting small farmers in addition to highlighting the crucial role of women in the agricultural sector and promoting their active participation. in agroecology and the local economy.”

Cortés has invited all the neighbors “and those who want to come to Adra this coming Saturday, to learn about everything that this fair is going to offer us,” because “not only will there be dozens of stands, but it also comes loaded with workshops to small and old.” “This ‘Ecoferia’ will be a unique opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of fresh, quality products, as well as to learn up close the work and passion of Adra’s small producers,” he insisted.

For her part, the president of AFAMMER in Andalusia and Almería explained that “at the Adra Ecofair the local, ecological and artisanal products of our province will stand out.” This event for which “we have worked intensely for months”, will start “with all the invited authorities starting at 10:00 a.m. in the Port of Adra Park.” Likewise, Mateos detailed that “to welcome the attendees, a breakfast with chocolate and freshly made churros will be provided.”

“More than thirty Almeria producers specializing in organic farming, crafts and organic products will be present at this event,” he indicated. As the president explained, “the program also includes a conference on short circulation circuits and their impact on more sustainable consumption, a professional olive oil tasting workshop and workshops for children.”

The coordinator of the project, Paco García, has highlighted that “the Ecoferia is supported by four pillars: the ecomarket, the workshops, the conference and entertainment.” Furthermore, he has assured that “this is a project that I like to call ‘process’ because it is something alive that will make the importance of bringing production closer to the towns, so that the rural world and rural women are empowered.”

During the presentation, the councilors of the Presidency, Culture and Finance, María Paz Fernández, Elisa Fernández and Alicia Heras, were present, accompanying the mayor, president and coordinator. It is worth remembering that the ‘Raíces: Women, Agroecology and Proximity’ program has been created by AFAMMER, in collaboration with Legados, an initiative aimed at making small farmers visible and promoting local or proximity products, with the aim of stopping depopulation and promote the local economy.

Programming of the ‘Ecoferia’

The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the inauguration of the Ecofair and a visit to the stands by the authorities present, among them, the mayor of Adra, Manuel Cortés, and the national president of AFAMMER, Carmen Quintanilla. The starting signal for this program will continue with a free chocolate and donuts. At 11:30 a.m. the conference ‘Forming Networks: Sustainable Local Consumption’ will take place at the Fisheries Interpretation Center by César de la Cruz Abarca, Agricultural Engineer and Doctor in Sustainable Management and Agroecology.

An oil tasting at the Ciudad de Adra Auditorium by the olive oil expert, Juana María Tiscar, will precede, at 12:00 p.m., the musical performance of Irish Folk music, ‘Samhradh’, in addition to entertainment and children’s games which will take place for the little ones attending the event from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
