The Port Authority of Santander awards the construction of new customs control facilities

The Port Authority of Santander has awarded the company Cuevas Gestión de Obras, SLU the contract to build the final customs control facilities on the North Bank dock. The contract, with a budget of 489,613 euros, has a four-month execution period and is designed to strengthen customs control of goods between the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The project includes the expansion of the customs inspection area, with the capacity to accommodate four lines of vehicles under cover and a ground floor building for services and offices. In addition, the signage of the exit routes for vehicles and goods will be improved, as well as the accesses to the control points.

The president of the Port Authority, César Díaz, has highlighted the importance of this investment as part of the efforts to adapt to Brexit, ensuring that the new facilities will strengthen the port’s security, competitiveness and sustainability. Díaz stressed the need to adapt to the new demands of traffic with the United Kingdom, which represents 20% of the port’s total movements and 27% of total revenue from fees and tariffs.

Finally, Díaz highlighted the collaboration with the Tax Agency and its Customs service in Cantabria to design and plan this project.
