While all the country’s forces are mobilizing to stem the covid epidemic which is currently hitting Polynesia hard, the blood transfusion center is also calling for the mobilization of all donors to continue supplying the blood bank. blood of the Country.
At a time when hospitalizations are increasing, blood needs are particularly important, both for people with covid infections and for those with other pathologies. All the more so, let us remember, that the territory is entirely autonomous in terms of blood products, which means that Polynesians can only count on their peers. “All donors, all blood groups are currently sought and welcome. The CTS does not have the possibility of obtaining blood supplies outside Polynesia, which is why we absolutely must continue to supply our blood bank because we do not depend on anyone except ourselves ”, explains Valérie Ségalin, doctor in charge of blood collection.
In addition, faced with the many new contaminations of covid recorded every day, the usual donors are becoming scarce because of the preventive measures to be respected.
As Valérie Ségalin specifies, a person who would have had an uncomplicated covid can continue to donate blood but must however wait 42 days after the first symptoms to do so. Also, a non-covid person, having very close contact with a covid person, either because it is a member of the same household, or because it is an office colleague with whom the ‘we shared an enclosed space for several hours, it is advisable to wait a fortnight before donating blood.
On the other hand, all vaccinated people have no contraindication to donating blood and all people, without Covid symptoms, are particularly called upon to manifest themselves.
Finally, as Valérie Ségalin specifies, before any donation, a preliminary interview with a doctor is systematic and determines whether the donor is suitable or not.
Currently, thanks to his permanent anticipation work, the head of the blood transfusion center, Julien Broult, has a stock offering him 10 days visibility on the needs for blood products throughout Polynesia.
Blood transfusion center (located at 2e CHPF floor) Tel: 40 48 47 74 Hours: Monday: 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday: 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday: 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Due to increased security within the hospital, the CTS may have to move its collection point outside the CHPF this week. Thus, it is advisable for any future donor to contact the CTS beforehand by telephone.
